Andina Copper Corp. has confirmed the discovery of a new porphyry copper system at its Piuquenes North target in San Juan Province, Argentina. The company reported that diamond drill holes PIU12 and PIU13, the first two holes testing a deep-seated low resistivity Magnetotelluric (MT) geophysical anomaly, intersected multiple intrusive phases with porphyry-style copper sulphide mineralization. The anomaly, approximately 800m by 700m, was identified in a February 10, 2026 news release.
Hole PIU13, drilled to 1,235m, intersected four porphyry intrusive phases, with the strongest visible copper sulphide mineralization between 848m and 1,045m downhole. This interval features chalcopyrite and bornite in quartz veins and disseminations associated with potassic alteration. Hole PIU12, to 992.6m, confirmed lateral continuity, intersecting pre-mineral porphyry dykes with chalcopyrite and minor bornite in andesitic host rocks. Both holes successfully targeted the MT anomaly, with the system remaining open to the north and at depth.
“Confirmation of a third mineralized porphyry system at Piuquenes North marks an important milestone for the project and further demonstrates the significant exploration potential of the Piuquenes property,” stated Joseph van den Elsen, President and CEO. Assay results are pending, and the company plans to integrate geological data to refine follow-up drilling targeting down-dip and along-strike extensions.
The company also noted that elevated sulphide content observed in drilling likely contributes to the conductive MT response. During the off-season, laboratory resistivity and chargeability measurements on core samples will refine geophysical interpretations. Andina Copper holds a 2,500-hectare land package in San Juan Province and is concurrently exploring the Cobrasco Project in Colombia.
