The Dr. Ian Weisberg Grant for Future Healthcare Leaders, founded by renowned cardiac electrophysiologist Dr. Ian Weisberg, is now accepting applications for undergraduate students on pre-health tracks. The grant provides a one-time award of $1,000 to a deserving student who demonstrates academic excellence and a strong commitment to a career in healthcare.
Dr. Weisberg, a distinguished cardiac electrophysiologist known for his pioneering contributions to cardiac care and community health, established the grant to support students on pre-medical or pre-health tracks. His extensive career includes developing electrophysiology programs, performing high-volume procedures with life-saving impact, and contributing to global healthcare initiatives, including designing a cardiac operating room in Kenya. His dedication to mentoring future healthcare leaders underpins the establishment of this grant.
Eligible applicants must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at an accredited college or university, pursuing a pre-medical or pre-health track (including pre-med, pre-nursing, pre-PA, or pre-pharmacy programs), and maintaining a strong academic record. The scholarship requires a complete application submitted by the July 15, 2026 deadline, including an essay of 750–1,000 words responding to the prompt: "Describe a personal experience that solidified your commitment to a career in healthcare. How did this experience shape your understanding of patient care, and how do you plan to carry those lessons forward into your future medical practice?"
The grant aims to provide financial support and recognition to help students focus on their studies and early clinical experiences. The recipient will be selected based on academic achievement, essay quality, and demonstration of a commitment to healthcare. The winner will be announced on August 15, 2026.
Through this scholarship, Dr. Ian Weisberg seeks to cultivate a generation of healthcare professionals who combine clinical excellence with compassion and innovation. The grant reflects Dr. Weisberg's philosophy that healthcare extends beyond hospital walls and that nurturing future leaders is essential to advancing patient care globally. By offering tangible support and recognition, the grant enables emerging professionals to focus on their studies and early clinical experiences with greater confidence and purpose.
"The Dr. Ian Weisberg Grant embodies a commitment to fostering the next wave of healthcare leaders who will carry forward the principles of excellence, empathy, and innovation," said Dr. Ian Weisberg. "It is both an investment in individual students and a broader investment in the future of medicine."
