Energy Fuels Inc. (NYSE American: UUUU) (TSX: EFR), a leading U.S. producer of uranium, rare earths, and critical materials, announced the appointment of Ross R. Bhappu as chief executive officer, effective April 15, 2026. Bhappu, who has served as president since August 2025, brings more than 30 years of leadership experience spanning mining, critical minerals, finance, and international resource development. He succeeds Mark S. Chalmers, who is retiring after more than eight years as CEO and will remain with the company as an exclusive uranium and rare earth consultant for two years.
The leadership change comes at a pivotal time for Energy Fuels, which has been at the forefront of U.S. critical materials production. The company owns the only fully licensed conventional uranium mill operating in the U.S. – the White Mesa Mill in Utah – where it also produces rare earth element (REE) products and evaluates medical isotope recovery for emerging cancer therapies. With several uranium projects in the western United States, Energy Fuels has been the top U.S. producer of natural uranium concentrate, supplying nuclear utilities.
Bhappu’s appointment signals a continued focus on expanding the company’s rare earth and critical minerals portfolio. Under his leadership, Energy Fuels is developing three heavy mineral sands/rare earths projects: the Vara Mada Project in Madagascar, Bahia Project in Brazil, and Donald Project in Australia (through a joint venture with Astron Limited). These international ventures complement the company’s domestic uranium operations and align with global demand for clean energy and advanced technology materials.
Mark Chalmers’ transition to a consultant role ensures continuity and expertise retention. His contributions over the past eight years have solidified Energy Fuels’ position as a key player in the U.S. nuclear fuel cycle and rare earth supply chain. The company’s ability to produce both uranium and rare earths positions it uniquely in the market, especially as the U.S. seeks to reduce reliance on foreign sources for critical minerals.
