FingerMotion Inc. (NASDAQ: FNGR) has entered into a binding memorandum of understanding to acquire land rights and permitting for a 9.9 megawatt behind-the-meter power generation and compute site in the County of Newell, Alberta, approximately 185 kilometers southeast of Calgary.
The site represents the first acquisition in the company's planned Brooks Campus Zone, where FingerMotion intends to assemble separately owned and permitted 9.9 MW sites as demand for powered land develops. This move is significant because it marks FingerMotion's entry into the energy and compute infrastructure space, a strategic shift for a company traditionally focused on mobile payment and recharge platform solutions in China.
Adjacent to an operating third-party natural gas facility, the site is designed to generate and consume power behind the meter without requiring a grid interconnection request, transmission service arrangement, or position in an interconnection queue. This behind-the-meter design could provide a substantial competitive advantage, as it avoids the lengthy and often uncertain grid interconnection processes that have delayed many power-intensive projects in North America.
FingerMotion is targeting a fully permitted site within 120 days of release to work and plans to advance energization only against contracted demand backed by a take-or-pay agreement and funded customer deposit. This approach mitigates financial risk by ensuring that power generation is matched with secured demand before significant capital is deployed. The take-or-pay agreement and customer deposit structure also provide revenue visibility and reduce exposure to market fluctuations.
The acquisition aligns with FingerMotion's broader vision of developing an ecosystem of users with high engagement rates.
