Global Water Awards 2026 Opens Nominations with New AI Category and Expanded Shortlist

The Global Water Awards 2026, organized by Global Water Intelligence (GWI), has opened nominations with significant changes, including a new category focused on artificial intelligence and an expanded shortlist, providing more opportunities for industry professionals to gain global recognition. Nominations are open until February 27, 2026, at 23:59 GMT, and can be submitted via the Global Water Awards website.

Recognized as the international water industry's most prestigious honor, the Global Water Awards celebrate excellence across 15 categories encompassing water, wastewater, technology, and desalination. The addition of an AI-focused category reflects the growing role of artificial intelligence in water management and treatment, highlighting innovations that leverage data analytics, machine learning, and smart systems to improve efficiency and sustainability.

Being shortlisted for these awards has historically led to significant business opportunities. Many past winners, including transnational water management companies, investors, EPC firms, utilities, industrial water users, and not-for-profit providers, have gone on to close major deals. A full list of previous winners is available at https://globalwaterawards.com/winners.

Nominations are open to all organizations and individuals in the water sector. The shortlist will be promoted to GWI's audience of over 40,000 readers, ensuring widespread visibility for nominees. Winners will be announced live at the Global Water Awards ceremony, held during the Global Water Summit in Madrid.

This year's expanded shortlist means more finalists will be recognized, increasing the chances for companies and projects to showcase their achievements on an international stage. The awards aim to foster innovation, collaboration, and excellence across the water industry, addressing critical challenges such as water scarcity, infrastructure resilience, and digital transformation.
