Hong Kong-Led Task Force Visits Canada to Boost Mainland Enterprises' Global Expansion

Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), a member of the Task Force on Supporting Mainland Enterprises in Going Global (GoGlobal Task Force), will lead a seven-day delegation to Canada starting September 20, 2026, to support Mainland enterprises in expanding their global business. The visit, announced on September 18, 2026, will focus on helping Chinese companies in sustainability and life and health sciences understand local ecosystems, while attracting Canadian businesses in these sectors to invest in Hong Kong.

The delegation, led by Ms. Loretta Lee, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK, will visit Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. It comprises Chinese Mainland companies specializing in green technology and life and health sciences. The mission aims to align the go-global needs of these enterprises with Canadian opportunities, facilitating partnerships and investment flows.

Ms. Lee emphasized Canada's strengths: "Canada is globally recognised for its exceptional research talent, clean technology leadership, and established life sciences ecosystem." She noted that Mainland green technology and life and health sciences enterprises pursuing international growth through Hong Kong bring capital and access to one of the world's largest markets, making them ideal partners for Canadian companies seeking to explore Asia and beyond. "We are keen to build fresh synergies with Canadian businesses to strengthen innovation, collaboration, and investment flows," she added.

During the visit, the delegation will meet with local institutions, chambers of commerce, and industry associations. They will also engage in targeted discussions with leading Canadian green tech and healthcare enterprises, visit universities and research parks, and participate in sector-specific roundtables and business networking sessions. These activities are designed to create concrete opportunities for collaboration and investment.

This outbound mission is part of Hong Kong's broader strategy to reinforce its role as a super-connector between Mainland China and the world. By facilitating Mainland enterprises' expansion into Canada, Hong Kong not only supports their international growth but also positions itself as a gateway for Canadian companies looking to tap into Asian markets. The focus on sustainability and life sciences aligns with global trends and Hong Kong's own development priorities, potentially driving innovation and economic diversification.

The visit underscores the importance of international cooperation in high-growth sectors. As Mainland enterprises increasingly seek global opportunities, Hong Kong's unique advantages under "one country, two systems" make it an ideal springboard. For Canadian businesses, partnering with these enterprises can provide access to vast markets and complementary strengths. The delegation's outcomes could lead to increased investment flows, technology exchange, and job creation in both regions.
