The inaugural Chinatown Creator Awards, held on August 27 at COYA Living, drew an over-capacity crowd, underscoring the growing influence of digital creators on the Spring Mountain Road corridor. The event, co-hosted by the luxury apartment community and ChinatownVegas.com, recognized 20 photographers, videographers, food personalities, and storytellers for their contributions to the neighborhood's culture and commerce.
Emceed by writer and film director Jason Harris, the private reception brought together honorees, chefs, restaurant owners, and community partners. Among the honorees in attendance were @lasvegasfill, @brandonfromvegas, @wheretogovegas, @therubyontherocks, @baileyzeats, and others. Each received a custom plaque commemorating their impact. Joe Muscaglione, founder of ChinatownVegas.com and Chinatown Amplify, emphasized the creators' role: "The creators honored through these awards have done far more than post about restaurants," he said, highlighting their work in building awareness of the corridor.
The reception also showcased the culinary excellence of Chinatown's dining scene. Sparrow + Wolf and Lamaii, both recently recommended by the MICHELIN Guide, served signature dishes. Chef Brian Howard of Sparrow + Wolf offered a smoky Isaan sausage, while Lamaii presented garlicky crispy prawns. Chef Steve Kestler of Aroma Latin American Cocina created a citrus-forward Chinatown Ceviche exclusively for the event. Other participating restaurants included Shanghai Taste, Double Zero Pie & Pub, China Mama, Mama's House × Durango Social Club, O.Onigiri, Noodlehead, and Charismatic Yo, Mochi!. The Alchemist Bar & Restaurant provided cocktails and zero-proof beverages, and longtime F&B veteran Paul Ellis poured wine and champagne.
The event's significance extends beyond the celebration. Las Vegas Chinatown receives approximately 23.9 million visits annually and is home to 248 verified sit-down restaurants, along with numerous cafés, markets, and businesses. Muscaglione noted, "It's 23.9 million visits a year - more than some countries and more than most cities - all concentrated in one neighborhood. These creators have helped the world see why." The awards were established to formally recognize the independent work of creators who have helped turn individual businesses into destinations and established the corridor as one of Las Vegas' most closely watched neighborhoods.
The over-capacity attendance and broad participation from the culinary and business communities marked the event as an undeniable success. Among the distinguished guests were rock photographer David Plastik and legendary music publicist Mitch Schneider, whose careers have included work with David Bowie and Aerosmith. Schneider described the reception on Facebook as a "meaningful event" honoring creators "who've helped put Las Vegas Chinatown on the map," praising the "taste bud-awakening curated bites from Chinatown's top chefs."
