Infrastructure Capital Launches Nasdaq Option Income ETF (QVOL) in Partnership with Nasdaq

Infrastructure Capital (ICA) has announced the launch of the Infrastructure Capital Nasdaq Option Income ETF (QVOL), which began trading on the Nasdaq. The fund seeks to provide investors with high monthly income and capital appreciation through exposure to companies in the Nasdaq Composite Index, leveraging an active management strategy that combines equity selection with option writing.

The ETF aims to address the tradeoff between yield and capital appreciation by capturing income from the volatility-heavy technology sector while positioning the equity portfolio for growth. Unlike competitor buy-write and option overlay strategies, ICA will actively manage both the equity portfolio and option activity in tandem, seeking to capture upside while generating premiums. QVOL can selectively write options on Nasdaq equities or indexes, focusing on companies it believes are overvalued, and uses short-duration options to limit upside caps, potentially allowing greater participation in market gains compared to systematic index-based strategies.

QVOL’s equity allocations are flexible, drawing from the broader Nasdaq Composite Index rather than the more concentrated Nasdaq-100. The Nasdaq Composite and Nasdaq-100 are highly correlated, with the largest non-financial companies in the Nasdaq-100 comprising about 80% to 90% of the composite’s market capitalization. This broader exposure includes major tech companies like the Magnificent Seven while offering more investment opportunities. ICA selects investments using quantitative, qualitative, and relative valuation factors, favoring lower relative priced stocks or companies with higher profitability compared to their index representation. Factors such as price-to-book, enterprise value, capital ratios, and price-to-cash flow are considered.

The fund’s investment philosophy emphasizes discipline, consistency, and risk management. Transactions are executed only after considering time horizon and portfolio positioning, with sell discipline triggered by excessive valuation, better opportunities, or changes in fundamental thesis. QVOL joins ICA’s existing lineup of ETFs, including the Infrastructure Capital Bond Income ETF (BNDS) and others. Jay Hatfield, lead portfolio manager with over 30 years of experience, oversees the funds. As of the launch date, the firm manages more than $3.5 billion in assets.

Investors should consider the risks associated with derivatives, options, leverage, and high portfolio turnover. The fund is distributed by Quasar Distributors, LLC. For more information, visit https://www.infracapfunds.com.
