Lahontan Gold Corp. (TSXV: LG) (OTCQB: LGCXF) announced the appointment of Billy Choi as its new chief financial officer, with Choi expected to assume full CFO responsibilities in October 2026 following a transition period. The strategic hire brings a wealth of financial expertise to Lahontan as it advances permitting for its flagship Santa Fe Mine and targets a restart of production in 2027.
Choi most recently served as vice president of finance at Lithium Royalty Corp., where he played a key role in the company's initial public offering, public-company reporting, financial controls, and its subsequent acquisition by Altius Minerals. His experience in navigating complex financial transactions and public markets is expected to be instrumental as Lahontan transitions from exploration and development to production. The appointment strengthens Lahontan's financial management team at a critical juncture, as the company seeks to secure necessary permits and financing for the Santa Fe Mine.
The Santa Fe Mine, located in the Walker Lane of mining-friendly Nevada, is a past-producing operation that yielded 359,202 ounces of gold and 702,067 ounces of silver between 1988 and 1995 from open pit mines utilizing heap-leach processing. According to a Canadian National Instrument 43-101 compliant technical report, the project hosts an Indicated Mineral Resource of 1,539,000 oz Au Eq and an Inferred Mineral Resource of 411,000 oz Au Eq, all pit constrained. Lahontan plans to update the Santa Fe Preliminary Economic Assessment and drill test its satellite West Santa Fe project during 2025.
The timing of Choi's appointment is significant as Lahontan positions itself to capitalize on the rising gold price environment and increasing investor interest in domestic precious metal production. With the Santa Fe Mine's established infrastructure and substantial resource base, the company aims to become a mid-tier gold producer in Nevada, one of the world's most prolific mining jurisdictions. The addition of a CFO with IPO and M&A experience signals Lahontan's intent to access public capital markets more aggressively and potentially pursue strategic opportunities.
