MAX Power Mining Corp. (CSE: MAXX; OTC: MAXXF; FRANKFURT: 89N) has appointed Tony Van Burgsteden as chief financial officer, effective immediately. Van Burgsteden, a current board member and former CFO of Orano Canada, succeeds Ryan Cheung, who served as CFO since June 2025. The appointment comes as the company accelerates toward commercial evaluation of its Saskatchewan Natural Hydrogen platform.
“Tony’s extensive financial expertise and deep understanding of the resource sector will be invaluable as we move our Natural Hydrogen assets toward commercialization,” said a company spokesperson. Van Burgsteden’s experience includes senior financial roles at major mining companies, positioning him to guide MAX Power through its next growth phase.
The company’s flagship project is the Lawson Discovery near Central Butte, Saskatchewan, which represents Canada’s first-ever subsurface Natural Hydrogen system confirmed through deep drilling. Data from the discovery has been validated by three independent laboratories. MAX Power has built a dominant land position in Saskatchewan, with approximately 1.3 million acres (521,000 hectares) of permits and an additional 5.7 million acres under application, targeting large-volume accumulations of Natural Hydrogen.
Natural Hydrogen, also known as white hydrogen, is attracting significant interest as a potential low-carbon energy source. Unlike hydrogen produced from natural gas or water electrolysis, natural hydrogen is extracted from subsurface accumulations, offering a potentially lower-cost and more environmentally friendly alternative. MAX Power’s Saskatchewan platform is considered one of the most promising natural hydrogen plays in North America.
In addition to its hydrogen focus, MAX Power holds a portfolio of critical mineral properties in the United States and Canada. These include the 100%-owned Willcox Playa Lithium Project in southeast Arizona, where a 2024 diamond drilling discovery highlighted the project’s potential. The company is committed to responsible exploration and development, prioritizing environmental stewardship, community engagement, and strong corporate governance.
The appointment of Van Burgsteden signals MAX Power’s intent to strengthen its financial management as it transitions from exploration to potential development.
