Quantum BioPharma Advances Novel Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Toward Phase 2 Trials

Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) is advancing its novel multiple sclerosis therapy, Lucid-MS, toward Phase 2 clinical trials, marking a potential shift in how the disease is treated. Unlike conventional MS treatments that primarily target the immune system, Lucid-MS is a non-immunomodulatory neuroprotective drug candidate designed to directly protect the myelin sheath damaged by multiple sclerosis. The company recently completed Phase 1 safety and tolerability studies, paving the way for the next stage of clinical development.

The drug candidate has demonstrated the ability to prevent and reverse myelin degradation in preclinical studies, supported by more than a decade of scientific research. This approach addresses the underlying mechanism of MS, which involves the progressive loss of myelin, the protective covering of nerve fibers. By directly protecting myelin, Lucid-MS could offer a new treatment paradigm for patients who do not respond adequately to existing immunomodulatory therapies.

In addition to advancing Lucid-MS, Quantum BioPharma is collaborating with researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital to validate a novel PET imaging technique that may enable direct measurement of myelin integrity in MS patients. If successful, this imaging method could provide a valuable tool for monitoring disease progression and treatment efficacy in clinical trials and clinical practice.

The development of Lucid-MS comes amid broader advancements in the neurological and immune-mediated disease sectors. Other companies, including Sanofi (NASDAQ: SNY), Roche Holding AG (OTCQX: RHHBY), Biogen Inc. (NASDAQ: BIIB), and Clene Inc. (NASDAQ: CLNN), are also pursuing innovative therapies for neurological conditions.

Quantum BioPharma is a biopharmaceutical company focused on building a portfolio of innovative assets for the treatment of neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders, as well as alcohol misuse disorders. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., the company is leading the research and development of Lucid-MS. The company also has a stake in Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., which markets the OTC product UNBUZZD, and retains royalty payments from its sales.
