Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM), a biopharmaceutical company focused on advancing therapies for neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders, was featured on the latest episode of The BioMedWire Podcast. Co-founder and executive co-chair Anthony Durkacz highlighted the company's lead drug candidate, Lucid-MS, which aims to address mobility loss associated with multiple sclerosis (MS) by targeting nerve damage. Durkacz noted that current treatments leave a significant unmet need, as they do not effectively address the underlying nerve damage that leads to disability progression.
Lucid-MS is a patented new chemical entity designed to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of MS. In preclinical models, Lucid-MS has shown the ability to restore myelin integrity, potentially offering a disease-modifying approach. The company is preparing for a Phase 2 clinical trial, which will be the first study to evaluate Lucid-MS in MS patients, following successful Phase 1 testing in healthy volunteers. This trial represents a critical milestone for Quantum BioPharma, as positive results could position Lucid-MS as a first-in-class therapy for MS-related mobility loss.
In addition to Lucid-MS, Durkacz discussed unbuzzd(TM), a commercial alcohol metabolism product designed to accelerate blood alcohol metabolism. unbuzzd is currently available in the U.S. market and is marketed by Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., a company Quantum spun out while retaining a 19.84% ownership stake as of March 31, 2026, and a royalty agreement: 7% of sales until payments total $250 million, then 3% in perpetuity. Quantum also retains 100% rights to develop pharmaceutical and medical versions of similar products. The product addresses a growing consumer demand for solutions that help manage alcohol consumption, and its over-the-counter availability provides immediate revenue potential.
The podcast appearance underscores Quantum BioPharma's strategy to balance near-term commercial revenue from unbuzzd with long-term value creation from its pipeline. The Phase 2 trial for Lucid-MS is a pivotal event that could significantly impact the company's valuation, given the large market opportunity in MS therapies. According to the company, MS affects approximately 2.8 million people worldwide, and there is a high demand for treatments that can slow or reverse disability progression. If Lucid-MS demonstrates efficacy in Phase 2, it could attract partnership interest or accelerate development toward regulatory approval.
