Quantum BioPharma's MS Imaging Study Shows Encouraging Preliminary Results at Midpoint

Quantum BioPharma (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) announced that its pilot multiple sclerosis (MS) imaging study with Massachusetts General Hospital has reached the halfway point in patient enrollment, with preliminary PET imaging data showing encouraging signals in acute MS lesions. This imaging technique is designed to distinguish demyelinated nerve fibers that may still be viable from permanent nerve damage, potentially offering a more precise way to measure myelin loss and repair.

These findings are directly relevant to Lucid-MS, the company's investigational compound designed to inhibit demyelination by targeting the enzyme PAD2, which is implicated in myelin degradation. A more precise imaging tool and a drug candidate designed to address the underlying cause of MS make for a compelling combination. Reaching the enrollment midpoint with promising early data suggests the science is holding up under real clinical conditions.

The study's progress is a significant milestone for Quantum BioPharma, as it moves closer to potentially validating a biomarker that could be used in future clinical trials of Lucid-MS. The ability to accurately measure myelin repair could accelerate drug development and provide a more objective endpoint for assessing treatment efficacy. This is particularly important in MS, where current imaging methods often fail to distinguish between reversible and permanent nerve damage.

The company is dedicated to building a portfolio of innovative assets and biotech solutions for the treatment of challenging neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders and alcohol misuse disorders. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., Quantum BioPharma is focused on the research and development of its lead compound, Lucid-MS. Lucid-MS is a patented new chemical entity shown to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis, in preclinical models.

In addition to its MS program, Quantum BioPharma invented unbuzzd and spun out its OTC version to Unbuzzd Wellness Inc. The company retains ownership of 19.84% of UWI and is entitled to royalty payments of 7% of sales from unbuzzd until payments total $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. Quantum BioPharma retains 100% of the rights to develop similar products for pharmaceutical and medical uses.

The preliminary results from the imaging study underscore the potential of this novel approach to transform MS diagnosis and treatment monitoring. If validated in larger studies, this could become a crucial tool for neurologists and a key differentiator for Quantum BioPharma's pipeline. The company's commitment to addressing the root cause of MS, rather than just managing symptoms, positions it at the forefront of precision medicine in neurodegeneration.

As the study progresses, the scientific community will be watching closely for final results that could confirm the initial promise. For now, the encouraging signals at the midpoint provide a strong foundation for continued investment in this research and for the development of Lucid-MS as a potential disease-modifying therapy.
