SBF AG, a listed specialist for innovative solutions in rolling stock, lighting, electromechanics, and sensor technology, is accelerating innovation in its “Sensor Technology and Electromechanics” business segment with two product innovations: the enhanced Automatic Label Feeder (ALF) and the new automatic optical inspection system INSPECT. Both solutions address the megatrends of automation and digitalization and were developed in-house, now being commercialized as market-ready products for industrial customers with similar requirements.
The enhanced ALF now enables fully automated labeling of glass vials, opening up new target industries such as pharmaceuticals, laboratory diagnostics, and fine chemicals. Originally developed for internal use in electronics production, ALF has evolved into an independent product line due to strong customer demand. Its platform architecture allows flexible adaptation to different production processes, providing a basis for further growth and strengthening the product portfolio.
INSPECT automates quality inspection of electronic assemblies after SMD assembly, taking process control in electronics manufacturing to a new level. The system uses a high-resolution camera to capture assembled PCBs, with software that identifies fiducial marks, component positions, and orientations, reads all standard barcode and 2D code formats, and automatically documents inspection results. Setup takes just minutes, and updates retain calibration and operating data. Improvements in stability and robustness ensure reliable operation even during hardware failures.
Robert Stocklinger, Member of the Management Board of SBF AG, highlighted the strategic importance: “We are now even better positioned for the future with these product developments. INSPECT takes quality assurance in electronics manufacturing to a new level of automation. Solutions with high customer value and clear efficiency potential are exactly the kind of innovation with which the SBF Group aims to grow. In electronics manufacturing, traceability and automation are decisive competitive factors. With the Automatic Label Feeder, we’re addressing exactly that need and are continually expanding the technology’s capabilities to include new applications such as the labeling of printed circuit boards, electronic components, and now glass vials as well. This demonstrates the adaptability of our technology and sustainably strengthens our product portfolio.”
These innovations exemplify SBF’s development approach: technologies initially created to optimize internal manufacturing processes are brought to market maturity, creating additional sales and growth potential. The company’s product portfolio is specifically geared toward industrial customer needs, and these new products reinforce its technological expertise in automation and digitalization across all business segments. The SBF Group benefits from the megatrends of mobility, climate protection, automation, and digitalization, leveraging its highly specialized hidden champions in each field.
