SS Innovations International, Inc. (Nasdaq: SSII) announced the successful completion of a long-distance cross-border telesurgery utilizing its SSi Mantra surgical robotic system and SSi MantrAsana tele-surgeon console. The procedure, performed on May 2, 2026, spanned more than 4,500 miles, with the surgeon located at the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in Perth, Australia, and the patient in Indore, India.
Dr. Mohit Bhandari, President of IRCAD India, remotely performed a robotic gastrojejunostomy during the Royal Australian College of Surgeons Annual Scientific Congress. The SSi MantrAsana tele-surgeon console, a compact chair-based version of the larger surgeon command center, enabled portability and facilitated the telesurgery from a physician office setting. The system is engineered for real-time remote procedures through ultra-low latency connectivity, high-definition visualization, and precise instrument control.
To date, more than 170 telesurgeries, including intricate cardiac procedures, have been performed with the SSi Mantra surgical robotic system. The SSi Mantra system features 3 to 5 modular robotic arms, an open-faced ergonomic surgeon command center, a large 3D 4K monitor, and the ability for superimposition of 3D models of diagnostic imaging. The optional SSi MantrAsana Tele Surgeon Console provides equivalent control functionality while enabling enhanced portability and telesurgery capability. The system utilizes over 40 different types of robotic endo-surgical instruments to support various specialties, including cardiac surgery, and 5mm instruments for pediatric and ENT surgeries. A vision cart provides the table-side team with the same magnified 3D 4K view as the surgeon for improved safety and efficiency.
This demonstration highlights the potential of telesurgery to bridge geographical gaps in surgical expertise, making advanced surgical care accessible to remote populations.
