Stell Engineering Achieves FedRAMP Moderate Equivalency, Raising Bar for Defense Cloud Security

Stell Engineering, Inc. announced on October 6, 2026, that its Stell Requirements Management System (SRMS) has achieved FedRAMP Moderate Equivalency. The designation, validated by FedRAMP recognized Third Party Assessment Organization ControlCase, confirms that the commercial cloud service offering meets 100% of the security controls in the FedRAMP Moderate baseline as outlined in the DoD CIO's December 2023 memo on cloud service providers hosting covered defense information. This milestone matters because it directly addresses a critical compliance hurdle for defense contractors: DFARS 252.204-7012 requires that any contractor storing covered defense information in the cloud use a provider that is FedRAMP Moderate authorized or equivalent. The 2023 memo tightened equivalency criteria, demanding full implementation of the Moderate baseline and independent 3PAO validation. By meeting that standard, Stell provides a compliant path for aerospace and defense programs to manage requirements without sacrificing security.

"Our mission is to give commercial, government, and defense programs the software tool to move hardware development faster than legacy tools allow. That starts with security," said Anne Wen, CEO of Stell Engineering. "Our partners trust us to protect their mission data and meet federal requirements for safeguarding Controlled Unclassified Information." The achievement is particularly significant for an AI-native requirements management software for aerospace and defense platform, where legacy tools often lag in both capability and compliance. Sam Rahn, Security Program Manager at Stell Engineering, noted that "obtaining FedRAMP Moderate Equivalency is a major milestone for Stell's security roadmap. This achievement was made possible by a Stell leadership team that embeds security in every conversation, and a team of talented engineers that are always asking what we can be doing better."

The implications extend beyond a single certification. Stell's SRMS already holds a FedRAMP Ready designation on the FedRAMP Marketplace and maintains a SOC 2 Type II report with no findings. Its government cloud offering, SRMS Government Cloud, holds an Impact Level 5 Authorization to Operate from U.S. Space Force Space Systems Command and has completed a FedRAMP High assessment, with its authorization package under review by the FedRAMP PMO. Stell also holds CMMC Level 2 certification. This layered security posture means defense contractors can adopt a modern, AI-driven requirements management tool while satisfying increasingly rigorous federal cybersecurity mandates. As the defense industrial base seeks to accelerate hardware development and maintain technological advantage, Stell's FedRAMP Moderate Equivalency offers a validated, secure foundation for digital engineering transformation. Contractors can review Stell's security program through their Trust Center.
