Trilogy Metals Completes 2026 Field Program at Upper Kobuk, Advancing Arctic Mine Permitting

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) has completed its 2026 summer field program at the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects in northwestern Alaska, achieving all priority objectives. The announcement matters because it moves the Arctic Project closer to a permitting decision and signals sustained momentum in a district that could become a major North American source of copper, zinc, lead, gold and silver.

Ambler Metals, the company’s 50/50 joint venture with South32 Limited, completed 42 geotechnical, hydrogeological, condemnation and exploration drill holes totaling approximately 5,200 meters. That work is designed to support mine design, infrastructure planning and permitting at the Arctic Project. The program also included exploration target assessments along a 100-kilometer volcanogenic massive sulfide belt to guide drilling priorities for 2027.

Ambler Metals appointed David Thomas, a mining industry veteran with more than 40 years of experience, as senior vice president of project development to lead engineering and development at Arctic. The appointment adds execution depth as the joint venture shifts from exploration toward engineering and permitting.

Trilogy anticipates increased exploration and development activity in 2027, with a draft environmental impact statement targeted for October 2027 and a record of decision targeted for September 2028. Those milestones are critical: a draft EIS opens formal public review, while a record of decision would set the conditions for construction and operation. For investors, the timeline provides a clearer path to permitting, though it also underscores that production remains years away.

The Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects sit within the Ambler Mining District, which Trilogy describes as one of the richest and most-prospective known copper-dominant districts in the world. The district hosts polymetallic VMS deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold and silver, and carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization. Exploration has focused on the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit, both within a land package spanning approximately 190,929 hectares.

Ambler Metals also has an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation, providing a framework for exploration and potential development in cooperation with local communities. Trilogy’s stated vision is to develop the district into a premier North American copper producer while protecting and respecting subsistence livelihoods, a commitment that will be tested as permitting advances.
