Trilogy Metals Updates on Proposed U.S. Department of War Investment for Alaskan Copper Projects

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) has provided an update on its previously announced proposed strategic equity investment of approximately US$35.6 million from the U.S. Department of War (DOW). The investment is intended to support exploration and development of the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP) in northwestern Alaska, a region rich in copper and other critical minerals.

The company confirmed that discussions with the DOW remain ongoing, and the letter of intent signed in October 2025 remains in effect as both parties continue to advance negotiations. The proposed funding is a significant step toward reducing U.S. reliance on foreign sources of critical minerals, particularly copper, which is essential for defense applications, renewable energy infrastructure, and electric vehicles.

The Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects, which include the Arctic volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit, are located within the Ambler Mining District. This district is recognized as one of the richest and most prospective copper-dominant districts globally, hosting polymetallic deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization.

Trilogy Metals holds a 50% interest in Ambler Metals LLC, which owns a 100% interest in UKMP. South32, a globally diversified mining and metals company, exercised its option in December 2019 to form a 50/50 joint venture with Trilogy Metals. The UKMP land package spans approximately 190,929 hectares, and Ambler Metals has an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation, to ensure exploration and potential development are conducted in cooperation with local communities.

The proposed investment by the DOW underscores the strategic importance of domestic mineral production. Copper is a critical component in military equipment, including ammunition, electronics, and communication systems. Additionally, the U.S. government's focus on securing supply chains for critical minerals aligns with the Biden administration's goals to transition to clean energy and bolster national security.

This development comes at a time when the global demand for copper is expected to surge due to the shift toward electrification and renewable energy. By advancing the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects, Trilogy Metals is positioning itself to play a pivotal role in meeting that demand while contributing to the economic development of Alaska.
