As extreme cold continues and near record low temperatures are expected later this week, UGI Utilities, Inc. is urging everyone to stay safe and be prepared for potential cold-weather impacts. The natural gas and electric utility company, which serves more than 760,000 customers, emphasizes the importance of cold safety and scam awareness during this period.
UGI recommends several safety tips for customers facing frigid conditions. These include keeping natural gas meter and regulator vents clear of snow and ice to prevent blockages that could disrupt service. Customers should also ensure that heating systems are functioning properly and have been serviced recently. Additionally, it is crucial to maintain a safe distance between space heaters and flammable materials, never use ovens or stoves for heating, and check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors.
In addition to cold safety, UGI highlights the need for scam awareness. Scammers often take advantage of extreme weather events to target utility customers. UGI reminds customers that its employees always carry identification, and they will never demand immediate payment or threaten to shut off service. Customers should be cautious of unsolicited calls, emails, or door-to-door visits requesting payment or personal information. If in doubt, customers should contact UGI directly using the phone number on their bill or visit the company's website at www.ugi.com.
